Adel Halawa

Hi! I am a PhD student in Neuroscience at co-supervised by Adrien Peyrache and Blake Richards. I am broadly interested in information theory, distributed representations of the world, and self-supervised learning.

I am both an experimentalist and a computational neuroscientist. The motivation of my PhD is to study theoretically-driven hypotheses and then test them experimentally. Right now, I am working on testing experimental hypotheses related to theories of predictive learning in the hippocampus. I am developing an ontogenetic model and recording mice electrophysiologically during wake behaviour and sleep. I am collecting high dimensional time-series data and analyzing it using modern computational methods.

Before joining McGill, I completed an undergraduate degree in Neuroscience and Physiology at the University of Toronto. My previous research was on the affects of acetylcholine in the prefrontal cortex of mice, supervised by Kaori Takehara Nishiuichi.

In my free time, I like to chill, climb, and run.
